Emily Kenning Wheeler is a versatile mezzo-soprano with experience across several genres, including Early Music, Opera, Musical Theatre, Jazz, and Bluegrass. Her ability to adapt to different styles is a hallmark of her contribution to the performing arts community.
Emily’s musical theatre credits span lead and supporting roles in theatres across the country. She has had the honor of performing alongside Kristin Chenoweth and was most notably chosen for the premiere performance of Jude Sylvan’s Beloved King, a Queer Bible Musical at Harvard University’s Oberon Theatre, in association with A.R.T.
In opera, Emily has portrayed Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the University of Iowa, Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief, and Acis in Acis and Galatea at Millikin University. She has also performed in masterclasses with Alan Held, Nathan Gunn and Christine Brewer.
As a choral artist, Emily performs with the professional ensemble withonevoice and was honored to be selected for the inaugural class of Young Artists at the Five Cities Baroque Festival, where she worked alongside renowned bass-baritone Alan Held, the 2024 guest artist.
Emily holds a Master of Arts in Voice and Opera from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music from Millikin University. In addition to her singing, she plays instruments including piano, guitar, and banjo, and has training in dance styles such as tap and hip hop.
With experience across a wide range of genres and formats, Emily brings dedication, skill, and a collaborative spirit to every project she undertakes.
